Alumni Spotlight - Ed Latimore
Ed Latimore was born and raised in the public housing projects of Pittsburgh, PA. Raised by his mother, Ed’s early years were spent around abuse, violence, and instability. It was a combination of books, video games, and friendships that kept Ed on a path to education and success.
After graduating from high school, Ed began his amateur boxing career in 2007. He won the Pennsylvania State National Golden Gloves in 2011 and became a national champion by winning the National Police Athletic League boxing tournament in Toledo, Ohio. Ed’s professional boxing career began in 2013 and included 15 fights ending in a 13-1-1 record.
In January 2014, at age 29, Ed enrolled at CCBC while serving in the United States Army National Guard and pursuing professional boxing. He graduated in 2015 with an associate degree in Pre-Engineering and received Phi Theta Kappa honors. He later transferred to Duquesne University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Physics in 2018.
Ed has since tutored in physics, chemistry, and math, self-published two books, and recently signed a major book deal with Penguin Random House. His book, Hard Lessons from the Hurt Business: Boxing and The Art of Life, is set to release in August 2025. Ed recently returned to the boxing ring for the first time since 2016 and won by TKO.
His wife Anna is a successful travel agent, which has led them to see a lot of the world. In 2022, Ed started a family with the birth of his son, Henry. Ed says that Henry is a typical toddler, but “I think he’s the sweetest baby in the world. Of course, I’m biased, though.”
In between raising his son, training for his fight, and writing his next book (his first work of fiction), Ed is an avid online and over-the-board chess player. He was even featured in American Chess magazine.
